Organized Crime Registry - Newsletter #3 - 11th February 1998 ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Newsletter Contents: Introduction Whats New/Changed Headlines Finished ---------------------------------------------------------------------- -=Introduction=- Welcome to the third installment of the Newsletter. I guess you would have all noticed the redesign of the main page. The new layout allows me to pack more information in a smaller area, principally this has been achieved by using columns as opposed to rows, as the basis of the design. I'm gradually tidying up the site and converting all the old-style pages into the news look that is on the home page. Bear with me since this is very time consuming and has the obvious downside that I cannot spend time promoting and adding more content to the site. Since this is all done in my own time it may take a while but trust me I will get there in the end! -=Whats New/Changed=- *Discussion Forum (new)* I have found a commercial service which provides forum capabilities for free (subsidized by advertising). As I write this I have just upload the appropriate page and setup some links. So there it is, as with all types of discussion its up to you to break the ice... ask questions, sound off, comment on current news? whatever you decide to post make sure you read my guidlines on the Forum page or my Welcome message thats in the Forum now. I've provided the facility so its up to you lot to use it! *Articles (changed)* If you haven't visited the Articles section recently you will have missed the recent upload of Russian Mafia articles. Only a few to get you started but expect more as and when I get the prepared for the site. *News Digest (new)* The email news digest is getting off to a good start, some days I skip sending because I don't have the time to prepare the mailing etc. but rest assured, the next mailing will include all news for the days since the last posting. If you haven't subscribed yet, get yourself along to the site or send me an email directly and I will add you personally to the mailing list. No uploads to the archive section yet, its a low priority really considering its just old news but I will get around to it eventually. *Request Section (update)* I have had spent sometime thinking about this and decided that I will start requesting people post a message to the discussion forum as a means of getting answers to questions. Hopefully this method will generate some decent responses from people more knowlegable than myself on certain subjects. *Book Section (update)* I must confess that I haven't had a chance to do anything with this part of the site since the last Newsletter. So much to do and so little time! *Search (update)* I have been playing around with this new feature to enable people to search the site but alas it is still not ready to use - in fact to be totally honest its driving me insane! I will not give in though because as the site grows it will become more invaluable to have this feature enabled. Bear with me, its becoming a major priority at the moment. -=Advert=- What follows is a shameless plug for my summary of all the stories that have been reported world wide by news agencies. All these stories are related to organized crime in some form or other. What follows is an example of the mailing that was sent out yesterday by the 'email news digest' which can be subscribed too by going to this url: http://members.tripod.com/~orgcrime/news.htm or you can email me direct and I will personally add you to the mailing list.
