In case you wasn't aware my aim for this site is to become the most comprehensive site covering information about OC. With the launch of the Articles section I think Im getting there! I expect the site may have to relocate sooner rather than later but don't worry I will give plenty of warning of this as soon as the move is complete. The main reason for this will be to gain better server access because currently I have no access to server logs. Other reasons are speed and space, I'd like everyone to have no problem accessing the site and, obviously, free web space is limited so eventually I shall run out, hence the move. -=Whats New=- *Articles* Well, if you have been to the site recently and checked the navigation links you will have noticed a new addition - 'Articles'. This page is an index to articles which actually appear on the OCR site rather than just links to another site. I've started with several articles which comment on the Triads, hope you find them interesting. Be warned some are quite long so they may take a while to download! I have a couple of Yakuza articles too which are fairly common on the internet so you have probably come across them before now. However, expect more to be added as soon as I get around to tracking them down. Update:The Triad and Yakuza sections are pretty healthy now with many articles now avaliable. *News* If you'd checked recently you will have noticed I am no longer updating the News section of the site. Im not sure how popular this was with people but the reason its been dropped is due to the lack of time. As I said on the site, if anyone is willing to research the news articles on a daily basis then I'd be happy to give someone the chance to do this and keep this feature running. Failing that, expect to the News updated again as soon as the articles section is overflowing. *Searching the site* Since the Articles section will be growing considerably I think an appropriate search facility is required. Therefore, expect to see an page added courtesy of those chaps over at www.hotbot.com (my favourite search engine). I will give you the facility to initially search the Articles section and as soon as I get the News up and running permanently this will be added to the list of searchable areas on the site. And of course the News Achives will be searchable too! -=Coming Soon=- *Book Section (update)* It hasn't been forgotten, its just the time thing preventing me getting it finished. Like I said before the Articles section is occupying all my time at the moment. Once Im happy with this expect work to contine on improving other areas, including getting the Book section up and running. *Request Section* I get quite a few emails from people trying to find out information about a particular area of organized crime. This lead me to the idea of creating a new section on the site where people can post requests for information. Hopefully, if all works well, people more knowledgeable on certain subjects can share this information with others who are less informed. Just another service the site can offer its visitors. -=Newsletter Format=- As you all aware this newsletter is sent out by the service operated at getreminded.com. As part of an upgrade to the service I now have the option to send this newsletter out in HTML format, i.e. a web page. Now, I personally don't use an HTML enabled email client so my choice is to keep the newsletter in its current textual format. But, since Im aiming to keep this operation fair, I pose the question to you: 'Would you like to receive the newsletter in HTML or text ?' As usual the email address is at the end of this newsletter. So if you do care let me know otherwise I will assume your all happy with the current format. -=Gangsta=- GANGSTA: The Sinister Spread of Yardie Gun Culture ISBN: 1-901250-02-4 John Davison Yardie is the name given to the branch of organized crime operated by Jamacians in Britain. The name Yardie originates from the slang term used by Jamacians from the ghettos of Kingston, Jamacia - the 'Yard'. In North America the term Posse is given to this same group of people. This book attempts to uncover the truth about Jamacian crime from its origins in Jamacia to the US and onto Britain. Davison tells the story from his own perspective providing a balanced view of the situation from all sides. Not only does Davison spend time with British and American law enforcement officials but he also 'hangs out' with the boys in the ghettos themselves. The political connections with the gangs are covered well in an informative fashion. Overall I found the book very enlightening and educational presented in a clear, unbiased manner that truly does credit to Davison' investigative background. I have great pleasure in recommending this title to anyone who wants a clearer insight into the fascinating world of Jamacian organized crime. So, to kick off this new section on the site I have two questions which need answers: Q1. Where can I find information motorcycle gangs on the net. Q2. Where can I find out what the triads' symbols look like? Forward all answers or even more questions to the email address that appears at the end of the newsletter. -=Stop Press=- I have just started up the News section again but in a slightly ammended format. This time the News will be delivered in a bulletin format by email, hopefully, once a day. This saves me a little time and hopefully it will become regular as clockwork. News Archives will of course be updated soon after the mailing is sent out. Be warned: the Archive update will be a low priority. -=Finished=- Well, it's the end of another issue of this newsletter. I hope you enjoyed reading this and learnt a little more about where Im taking the site in the future. As always, if you have any questions about the site or anything that I've mentioned here or on the site, feel free to send an email at the address below. OK, thats all for now. Enjoy the site, and dont forget the feedback ! See you in issue 3!
